Fairfield in 1776: Revolution & Resilience at Fairfield Museum & History Center

Explore Fairfield’s colonial past in Fairfield in 1776: Revolution & Resilience, an exhibition marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. On view from May 14, 2026, through January 3, 2027, the exhibition examines the people, communities, and social structures that shaped Fairfield in the years leading up to the American Revolution.

Visitors can learn about the ethnic and religious backgrounds, economic circumstances, and languages of Fairfield’s residents, discovering who held power at the time of the Declaration’s signing and who was excluded from it. The exhibition traces residents’ lives before and during the Revolution’s difficult years and invites visitors to compare colonial Fairfield with the town today.

The exhibition is presented at the Fairfield Museum & History Center, 370 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT 06824. It was presented in conjunction with Portraits of Fairfield, which was on view in the Museum Commons from May 14 through September 27, 2026.
