May 16 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
El Teteo in Harriet’s Backyard at Stowe Center for Literary Activism

A lively community celebration will take place on May 16 from 12 pm to 4 pm at the Stowe Center for Literary Activism, 77 Forest Street, Hartford, CT 06105, marking the closing of the exhibition What does it mean to be Human? by artist Amanda Mendoza and researcher Gamze Ozker. The event brings together music, culture, and conversation in a festive outdoor setting inspired by the Dominican tradition of a “teteo,” or joyful gathering.

Guests can experience an afternoon filled with music and dancing, a car show featuring local enthusiasts, dominoes and card games, and arts and crafts for all ages. A variety of food trucks will be on site offering diverse cuisine, while local organizations provide information and resources to the community. The Stowe Center Visitor Center will also be open, offering a final opportunity to view the exhibition, which explores themes of identity, dignity, and human rights through deeply reflective works.

Admission is free and open to all ages, with registration recommended but not required. For more information, visit stowecenter.org or call 860-522-9258.
