Docent Tour: The Architecture of the YCBA at Yale Center for British Art

Architecture enthusiasts can enjoy a guided tour exploring the iconic design of the Yale Center for British Art on August 3, 2025, from 3:00 to 3:45 pm. This docent-led experience offers a closer look at the museum’s celebrated building, designed by modernist architect Louis I. Kahn (1901–1974).
Participants will learn about the architectural significance of Kahn’s final masterpiece, examining how his use of natural light, materials, and geometry creates a space that complements the art it houses. The tour provides insight into the vision behind one of the most important works of modern architecture in the United States.
Tours begin in the Entrance Court by the Visitor Services desk and are led by trained volunteer educators who share their unique perspectives. Each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes.
The Yale Center for British Art is located at 1080 Chapel Street, New Haven, Connecticut. Admission to the museum and the tour is free. For more details, visit britishart.yale.edu or call 203-432-2800.
