Dinner with King Tut at The Mark Twain House & Museum

The New York Times bestselling author Sam Kean will present his latest work, Dinner with King Tut: How Rogue Archaeologists Are Re-creating the Sights, Sounds, Smells, and Tastes of Lost Civilizations, at The Mark Twain House & Museum on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 7 pm. This in-person program offers a sensory journey through history, from the tang of Roman fish sauce and Egyptian sourdough to the clash of Viking swords and the spectacle of an Aztec ballgame. Kean’s explorations—ranging from firing medieval catapults to mummifying salmon—bring the past to life in vivid and unexpected ways.
Following the discussion, books will be available for purchase, and Kean will sign copies. The program will be moderated by Dr. Daryn Reyman-Lock, Beatrice Fox Auerbach Chief Curator at The Mark Twain House & Museum, whose background in archaeology and phenomenology adds depth to the conversation.
Admission is $10 per person, including fees. The Mark Twain House & Museum is located at 351 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT 06105. For tickets and details, visit marktwainhouse.org or call 860-247-0998.
