Conquer the Current 2025 at Connecticut River Museum

The Connecticut River Museum will host its sixth annual Conquer the Current downriver paddle regatta, a one-way, 9-mile race from Eagle Landing State Park in Haddam to the museum’s waterfront in Essex. This event supports the museum’s education programs and is open to all non-motorized, seaworthy paddle craft, including canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, rowboats, and more.

The race will begin at 8:30 am on Saturday, August 16, with check-in starting at 8 am. Intermediate to advanced paddlers age 16 and older are welcome, with youth ages 12–15 permitted alongside a registered adult or with race committee approval. Safety vessels will be on hand, and all participants must wear USCG-approved personal flotation devices. Stand-up paddleboarders are also required to use a leash.

Additional activities include the Surfrider Foundation Connecticut SUP Sprints, part of a five-race circuit with top prizes such as custom Quickblade race paddles. Food from Porky Pete’s BBQ will be available at the finish line. Registration is \$60 per solo vessel or \$80 per multi-person vessel, with online registration open until race time. Participants are responsible for their own transportation between the start and finish points.

The event will take place rain or shine unless dangerous conditions occur. There is no rain date, and registrations will be considered donations if the race is canceled. For more details and to register, visit ctrivermuseum.org.
