Connecticut Ballet presents: Family Matinee at the Ballet at The Bushnell

Families can experience the beauty and excitement of professional ballet during Connecticut Ballet’s Family Matinee at the Ballet on June 20, 2026 at 2 pm at The Bushnell. The performance runs approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Designed especially for children ages 4 to 12, the interactive matinee introduces young audiences to the world of ballet through narration, live performance, and audience engagement. Artistic Director Brett Raphael guides audiences through the program, inspired by Leonard Bernstein’s Young People’s Concerts with the New York Philharmonic.

Company soloists will perform excerpts from beloved classical and contemporary ballets while sharing insights into their roles and the challenges of professional dance performance. Featured selections include scenes from Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and Goose Pimples, set to New Orleans-style jazz music by Bix Beiderbecke.

The afternoon also includes a question-and-answer session with the dancers followed by a meet-and-greet opportunity in the theater lobby.
