Bruce Experiences: French Film Series – Bergers (Shepherds) at the Bruce Museum
April 13 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

The Bruce Museum will present a special screening of Bergers (Shepherds) on Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. as part of its French Film Series. Directed by Sophie Deraspe and adapted from Mathyas Lefebure’s semi-autobiographical novel D’où viens-tu, berger?, this powerful drama was honored with the Best Canadian Film award at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
The film follows the story of Mathyas (Félix-Antoine Duval), a burnt-out advertising executive who abandons his high-stress career in Montreal to pursue a simpler life as a shepherd in Provence. His idealistic vision of rural life is challenged by the rugged realities of the job. Along the way, he meets Élise (Solène Rigot), a fellow career dropout, and the two immerse themselves in the centuries-old tradition of transhumance—herding sheep across the changing landscapes of southern France. Visually striking and emotionally resonant, Shepherds explores themes of transformation, resilience, and reconnecting with nature.
The event will include a reception featuring cheeses and beer from Québec, hosted by Marie-Josée Duquette, Culture, Francophone, and Academic Affairs Attachée of the Quebec Government Office in Boston.
Tickets are $10 for adults. The Bruce Museum is located at 1 Museum Drive, Greenwich, CT 06830. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit brucemuseum.org or contact Marketing@brucemuseum.org.
