June 21 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Bomba Workshop with Bomba de Aquí at Connecticut Museum of Culture and History

Experience the vibrant rhythms and traditions of Afro-Puerto Rican culture at the Bomba Workshop with Bomba de Aquí on Saturday, June 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History in Hartford.

Led by Brendaliz Cepeda—granddaughter of NEA Heritage Fellow Rafael Cepeda—and current SNEAP Mentor Saul Peñaloza, this free, family-friendly workshop offers an engaging introduction to Bomba drumming and dance. Bomba de Aquí is a dance and music company known for sharing Puerto Rican traditions across western Massachusetts and central Connecticut.

Participants will learn about the history and significance of Afro-Puerto Rican music and are encouraged to take part in dancing and drumming. The workshop will be taught in both Spanish and English. Skirts will be provided for children, and adults are encouraged (but not required) to bring a scarf or skirt.

The Connecticut Museum of Culture and History is located at 1 Elizabeth Street, Hartford, CT. For more details, visit chs.org.
