Beverly Gage on This Land Is Your Land: A Road Trip Through U.S. History at Mark Twain House & Museum

Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Beverly Gage will visit the Mark Twain House & Museum on May 26 from 7 pm to 8 pm for a discussion of her new book, This Land Is Your Land: A Road Trip Through U.S. History.
In the book, Gage explores how Americans engage with history through museums, historic landmarks, roadside attractions, reenactments, and cultural sites across the country. Her work examines the ways many historic destinations simplify the American story while revealing the deeper complexities, controversies, and unexpected perspectives that shape the nation’s past. Timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, the book reflects on how Americans can confront difficult history while maintaining a connection to the country’s ideals and identity.
Gage teaches American history at Yale University and is the author of G-Man: J. Edgar Hoover and the Making of the American Century, which received the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Biography along with several other major literary and historical awards. She has also written for publications including The New Yorker, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.
The Mark Twain House & Museum is located at 351 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT 06105. Admission is $15 for general admission and $40 for admission plus a copy of the book. Museum members receive a discount on admission plus book tickets.
