Art in Context: The Body is Not a Fact at Yale Center for British Art

Yale Center for British Art presents Art in Context: The Body is Not a Fact on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 12:30 to 1:00 pm in New Haven, Connecticut. This half-hour talk, led by Luciana McClure Lewis, will explore how Tracey Emin’s bronze sculptures Without Conscience and Every Part of Me Feels You engage with themes of memory, emotion, and identity.

McClure Lewis will examine how Emin’s works challenge the idea of the body as a stable or fixed form, drawing on feminist theory and disability studies to highlight how cultural memory and social constructs shape perceptions of gender and physical identity. The discussion emphasizes how these deeply personal sculptures reflect the fluid and constructed nature of the self.

The Yale Center for British Art is located at 1080 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT. Admission to the museum and the event is free. For more information, visit britishart.yale.edu or call 203-432-2800.
