Ari Axelrod: My Year in Anatevka at Westport Country Playhouse

Ari Axelrod brings My Year in Anatevka to Westport Country Playhouse on Tuesday, September 15, at 7 pm for a musical and personal reflection inspired by Fiddler on the Roof.

Over the course of one year, Axelrod performed in three productions of Fiddler on the Roof across three states, portraying six different characters ranging from fathers and sons to dreamers, skeptics, a milkman, a tailor, and a priest. The experience took on new meaning as the Jewish world grappled with the aftermath of October 7, 2023, bringing themes of tradition, identity, displacement, resilience, and hope into sharper focus.

Featuring beloved songs from Fiddler on the Roof, behind-the-scenes stories from the three productions, and music inspired by the musical’s memorable characters, including songs that did not make it to Broadway, My Year in Anatevka explores the ways familiar stories can take on new meaning.

The performance offers a warm, humorous, and moving tribute to Fiddler on the Roof while reflecting on the unexpected ways stories passed down through generations can provide comfort and connection.
