Archaeology Field School for Adults with the Office of State Archaeology in South Glastonbury

The annual Archaeology Field School for Adults returns to South Glastonbury from Monday, July 21 through Friday, July 25, 2025, offering participants a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on archaeological research at a historically significant 17th-century colonial site. Hosted by the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History in collaboration with the Office of State Archaeology and the Friends of the Office of State Archaeology, Inc., the program runs daily from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Open to adults 18 and older, the field school is designed to introduce the fundamentals of archaeological fieldwork. Participants will learn field methods, mapping techniques, data management, paperwork procedures, and artifact identification, all while actively contributing to an authentic archaeological excavation. This program is especially relevant for educators in history or social science and those working in museum education settings.

The field school takes place in South Glastonbury, CT. Educators and veterans may be eligible for discounted rates and are encouraged to contact the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History at CSMNHinfo@uconn.edu for more details. Accessibility accommodations can be arranged by contacting the museum by Friday, July 11, 2025.
