Aquarium Marine Science Mentorship at Mystic Aquarium

Mystic Aquarium will launch another session of its Aquarium Marine Science Mentorship beginning Thursday, September 25, 2025. This prestigious 12-week afterschool course is designed for high school students in grades 10 to 12, running weekly on Thursdays from 3 pm to 5:30 pm through December 18, 2025 (excluding Thanksgiving on November 27).

This immersive program introduces students to careers in marine science while deepening their understanding of animal husbandry, biology, and ecology. Participants will work in small groups alongside Mystic Aquarium’s professional staff, gaining valuable workforce skills such as communication, problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, and leadership.

Highlights include:

• Job shadowing opportunities with animal care and conservation specialists
• Participation in authentic research projects and educational experiences
• Hands-on learning in animal husbandry and invertebrate aquaculture through horseshoe crab conservation research
• Development of communication skills through animal exhibit interpretation
• Public engagement in conservation via a social media project
• Research and design of animal enrichment studies

Students will also complete a study project that fulfills service-learning requirements, making this a unique academic enrichment experience.

Tuition for the 12-week program is $750. Enrollment is limited and requires a minimum number of students to run.
