An Interconnected World: Nature in Indonesian and Dutch Art at Yale University Art Gallery

Explore the profound ways nature has shaped artistic traditions across cultures in this collaborative session led by Jessie Park, Nina and Lee Griggs Assistant Curator of European Art, and Arielle Winnik, Donna Torrance Assistant Curator of Indo-Pacific Art. This object-based program examines the role of the natural world in Indonesian and Dutch art, revealing how it has inspired creativity, provided essential resources, and connected distant cultures throughout history.
Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Nusantara: Six Centuries of Indonesian Textiles, the program offers a rich perspective on how nature informs art and underscores a dynamically interconnected world.
The event takes place on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at the Yale University Art Gallery, 1111 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT. Attendees should meet by the central column in the Gallery lobby. Space is limited.
