An Evening with Daniel Mason at The Mark Twain House & Museum

Award-winning novelist Daniel Mason returns to The Mark Twain House & Museum for a special literary conversation on July 10, 2026, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. The bestselling author will discuss his latest novel, Country People, with acclaimed writer and critic Rand Richards Cooper.

Country People follows a family through a transformative year as they leave behind familiar comforts and venture into an uncertain new life in Vermont. Combining humor, lyricism, and keen observations of family and place, the novel continues the storytelling tradition that has made Mason one of contemporary literature’s most celebrated voices. Mason is the author of several acclaimed works, including North Woods, The Piano Tuner, The Winter Soldier, A Far Country, and A Registry of My Passage Upon Earth.

The evening will feature a conversation between Mason and Hartford-based author Rand Richards Cooper, whose work has appeared in publications including The New Yorker, Harper’s, The Atlantic, and Best American Short Stories. Cooper also leads the judging panel for the Mark Twain American Voice in Literature Award.

A cash bar and book signing will accompany the event. Admission options include a $45 bundled ticket with a copy of the book and general admission, a $40 member ticket that includes the book and admission, or $20 general admission without a book. This event is co-sponsored by Webster Bank.
