24th Annual Housatonic Heritage Walks

Explore the history, culture, and natural beauty of Litchfield County during the 24th Annual Housatonic Heritage Walks, taking place from September 5 through October 4, 2026. This free series of guided interpretive walks invites participants to discover the region through a variety of family-friendly outdoor experiences hosted at locations throughout Litchfield County.

Led by historians, naturalists, and environmental experts, the program features guided hikes, historic district tours, estate garden walks, behind-the-scenes visits to cultural sites, explorations of former industrial landmarks, Native American and African American history walks, scenic bike tours, and nature excursions. Each walk offers an opportunity to learn more about the people, places, and landscapes that have shaped the Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area.

Presented in partnership with local historic, cultural, and outdoor recreation organizations and the National Park Service, the Heritage Walks are free and open to the public. Events take place at various locations throughout Litchfield County, and advance planning is encouraged as schedules and locations vary.
