22nd Annual Connecticut Open House Day at Mattatuck Museum

The Mattatuck Museum will take part in the 22nd Annual Connecticut Open House Day on Saturday, June 13, from 11 am to 5 pm with free admission for all visitors through the Access for All initiative supported by Art Bridges. Guests can spend the day exploring a wide range of exhibitions, interactive experiences, and conversations with guest curator Camilo Alvarez during Ask A Curator, available throughout the galleries from 11 am to 5 pm.

Visitors can experience Ascendancy: The Self in Contemporary Art while engaging directly with the curator, as well as About Face: 250 Years of American Portraits in the Whittemore & Noonan Galleries. Presented in honor of the nation’s semiquincentennial, the exhibition examines identity, citizenship, and belonging through American portraiture spanning 250 years. Guests can also participate in an interactive portrait selfie station and contribute to a community talk-back wall featured within the exhibition.

Additional exhibitions opening June 13 include Psychedelic Splendor: The Concert Art of AJ Masthay & Helen Kennedy in the Munger Gallery and Theodate Pope’s Highfield: A History in the History Gallery. Psychedelic Splendor showcases more than twenty vibrant screen-printed concert posters created for legendary bands including Black Sabbath, Dave Matthews Band, Dead & Company, Foo Fighters, Goose, The Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam, and Phish. The exhibition highlights the evolving art form of concert poster design through the imaginative work of Connecticut artists AJ Masthay and Helen Kennedy.

The Mattatuck Museum is located at 144 West Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06702. Admission is free for all guests during the event. For more information, visit mattmuseum.org.
