The Hilton Mystic is completely renovated and we were there to experience what they have to offer. We took a tour with the General Manager to learn what has happened over the last year to make the Hilton Mystic fresh and new. The renovation transformed the entire facility into a warm and inviting place to spend while on vacation. The nautical theme can be seen throughout the property and local artwork depicts seamen from the past. A focal point of the main foyer are the waterfall glass partial walls.
Through out the hotel you will see that the decor pays tribute to the local maritime heritage, using reclaimed shiplap, brick, iron, floor planks, and canvas for the basis of it’s architectural plan. Each of their 183 guest rooms were completely updated during the recent renovation.
When you walk through the front door of the Mystic Hilton you are greeted with the inviting open-air courtyard featuring gas-flamed fire pits and sofa seating. This area offers a relaxing place to enjoy a drink and small bites with friends anytime of the early or late evening.
The Irons restaurant is named in honor of one of Mystic’s historical Seaport craftsman, Irons and Grinnell Shipbuilders. The cuisine centers around contemporary regional American fare, using locally-sourced seafood and seasonal ingredients to create classics dishes, many that can be to share. They offer over two dozen revolving craft beers on tap, a wide selection of premium wines and spirits, and an array of unique whiskey, bourbon, and scotch.
The Irons restaurant offers a Happy Hour menu from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. After our tour of the hotel, we enjoyed a tasting from the Happy Hour menu and this is what they have to offer you as well.
Starting off, The Irons offers three signature cocktails during Happy Hour: Irontini, Dexter’s Margarita, and Andrew Jackson’s Crystal Cosmo. The Irontini is a refreshing blend of Deep Eddy grapefruit vodka, aperol, and pink grapefruit juice finished with a splash of prosecco. Andrew Jackson’s crystal cosmo is a slightly sweet mixture of Svedka Citron vodka, Solerno blood orange liquer, and white cranberry juice. The slightly different Dexter’s margarita consists of Cuervo gold tequila, Cointreau, orange juice, and lemon juice.
The Irons Happy Hour menu includes:
- Marinated olives: Spanish and Kalamata olives in extra virgin olive oil
- Truffle deviled eggs (our favorite)
- Buffalo chicken dip with tri-color tortilla chips
- Roasted red pepper hummus with toasted pita chips
- White cheddar tater tots with jalapeno truffle mayo
- Firecracker shrimp with Thai slaw and Asian zing sauce
- Hot wings: bite size bone-in pieces of pork ribs in one of three sauces: buffalo, bourbon bbg or Asian zing
As you can see by the picture below, we were treated to each beautifully presented dish on the Happy Hour menu. Not only was the presentation appealing, but each dish was quite tasty. The colorful options make you “happy” that the work day is done.
Deviled Eggs are making a comeback as a Happy Hour staple and Mystic Hilton’s “The Irons” has some of the best we have tried in a long time. They are smooth and creamy and have a hint of garlic that blends nicely with the truffle oil.
If you want to add a little spice to your Happy Hour, try the Firecracker Shrimp. The shrimp were cooked perfectly with a nice crunch of breading.
Street Tacos are a favorite among guests at the Mystic Hilton “The Irons”. While they are not on the Happy Hour menu you will want to order some to try the TANGY, SPICY flavor…
Live music can be heard almost every night at The Irons restaurant, sometimes it will start just before Happy Hour is over. So, what better way to unwind after a day of sightseeing or working, come in to The Irons and enjoy a drink and some culinary delights while listening to music and seating in their courtyard.
