Hands-On-History Summer Experience at Glebe House Museum

Young historians can step back in time during the Hands-On-History Summer Experience at Glebe House Museum, taking place August 3–7, 2026. Designed for children ages 6–12, this week-long program offers an immersive journey into life in 18th- and 19th-century Connecticut through hands-on activities, historical exploration, and creative learning.

Now in its 35th year, the Summer Experience combines education and fun at the museum’s historic site, where participants can discover colonial crafts, make candles, churn butter, learn traditional childhood games, and explore the renowned Gertrude Jekyll Garden. Campers will also learn about herbal remedies and kitchen gardens, create nature-inspired art, and gain insight into early American trades and daily life.

Led by experienced educators, the program is designed to provide a safe, engaging, and interactive environment that encourages curiosity about history, horticulture, the arts, and the lives of those who came before us. Through hands-on experiences and living history activities, children will gain a deeper appreciation for Connecticut’s past while making lasting summer memories.

The program runs Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm. Registration fees are $250 per child for museum members and $275 per child for non-members. Families who register by June 30, 2026, will receive a 10% early bird discount. A limited number of camperships are also available.

Glebe House Museum is located at 49 Hollow Road, Woodbury, CT 06798. Registration forms should be mailed to Glebe House Museum, P.O. Box 245, Woodbury, CT 06798.
