Join us for round two of What’s On9 happening this Friday, April 3 from 6 to 8 pm in New Haven’s Historic 9th Square neighborhood.
What’s On9 is a free open-house event and will promote Art, Music & Design related events in the 9th Square. Highlights for this event include Neville Wisdom’s Spring Runway Show, a collaborative art demonstration between Artist & Craftsman and the Creative Arts Workshop, live poetry, sculpture a handful of art opening receptions, lots of live music, and an exciting audiovisual after party
“This Friday is “Good” for so many reasons. Kick off your Easter weekend with some truly creative, unique and fun neighborhood activities. There will be nearly 20 different events happening simultaneously in the 9th Square this Good Friday. We’re very excited about the jam-packed programming.” says Win Davis, Executive Director of Town Green District.

Art: Inspired Turkey (82 Crown St.) New Haven playwright Starry Krueger will host a reading of her newest work from 6 to 7PM. THE BOAT features poetry, music, and mermaids, and explores the stages of grief and how we cope with loss, It will be followed by a talk and reception with the playwright and actors from 7-8PM. Complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be provided. THE BOAT is recommended for ages 10 and up. Free admission.
Reynold’s Fine Art (96 Orange St.) Stop by for Reynold’s for a free opening reception for Sara Abalan’s abstract art exhibit from 5PM-8PM. The exhibit will be on display from April 3 to May 30.
Artist & Craftsman Supply (821-825 Chapel St.) Join Creative Arts Workshop (CAW) at Artist & Craftsman from 6PM-7:30PM for FREE demos and discounts. CAW Faculty members Tung Hoang and Haley Grunloh will be on hand to demonstrate the silkscreen printing process on t-shirts and “pysanky”, a Ukrainian method of decorating Easter eggs. Anyone who signs up for a class at CAW that night will be eligible to take advantage of a 10% Student Discount, and receive a gift from A&C Supply: your choice of a tote bag or a vinyl zippered pouch!
The Grove (760 Chapel St.) Check out Dr. Ivan Tirado’s Sculpture Party at 7PM. Arrive to find all the supplies you need to have fun with clay. No experience necessary. You just need to relax with your friends and meet new ones, while having a drink and creating your own masterpiece. Tickets available at: brownpapertickets.com/event. Park in the State Street lot and get your ticket validated for 50% off (lot closes at 9PM.) This is an Arts Interstices event, connecting the arts to new people and new ideas.
Euphoria Salon (57 Orange St) –Don’t miss the art opening for Xiaoxing Cao from 6PM-8PM. She will debut her traditional Chinese paintings at Euphoria featuring flowers and landscapes. Her artwork evokes a spirit of youthfulness and tranquility. Wine and snacks will be provided while you view the art and listen to traditional Chinese music!
Artspace (50 Orange St.) – Enjoy the latest exhibits “Vertical Reach and “Head Will Roll.” “Vertical Reach” is an exhibition that looks at the current political climate in Eastern Europe to explore how acts of protest and assembly operate when framed as artistic practice. “Heads Will Roll” features selected works using satire to wage humorous and critical commentaries on current world powers, political trends, and personalities. The exhibits will be on display until May 2, 2015. The gallery is open until 8PM and is free to the public. More information here
101 Art Threads (118 Court St.) There’s a new art gallery in town and it features the revolving artwork of 101 national artists. Check them out during On9 as they open their doors to the public.
The Glass Cloud (819 Chapel St.) – This new vapor lounge features the artwork of 14 locals. Stop by during On9 to see the latest displays. The lounge promotes a healthier alternative to smoking tobacco.
Baobab Tree Studios (71 Orange St.) –Swing by the studio at 8PM for the Audio.Video.eXperiment Party with a series of DJs spinning music and VJs projecting videos. Dance, sit and watch video art, socialize and check out the space. Beer & wine for a $4 donation.
Cafe Nine (250 State St.) Wess Meets West, Ports of Spain, Fishing the Sky, and Grace Notes are the featured bands of the evening. This is a 21 and over event starting at 9PM. $5 cover charge. Tickets available at: cafenine.com.
