Thermacell has been making products to repel mosquitoes and other annoying bugs since 1999. This year Thermacell came out with a new product that not only repels mosquitoes, it also lights the night. The Thermacell Repellent Camp Lantern is durable and also water-resistant and specifically designed for the outdoors. It is great to take with you when camping, hunting, and fishing. It provides bright light and the intensity of the light can be changed with the press of the button on the front. Press it once to turn it on and continue to press until the light is the intensity you need. Press it again and it becomes an emergency SOS light.
The Thermacell Repellent Camp Lantern has a 20m light beam distance with 15-foot x 15-foot “Zone of Protection” against bugs (or 225 square feet). It is cordless, portable and lightweight and provides up to 50 hours of light on highest setting. Because this lantern is battery operated you won’t have to worry about open flames and you get light and bug protection all in one product.
The difference with this camp lantern is that it can also repel mosquitoes. On the top of the lantern you will see a blue tab in the photo below. That is where the Thermacell repellent pads are inserted. When the lantern is turned on the pads emit an odor-free repellent that is effective to repel mosquitos, black flies and other flying and biting insects. It doesn’t kill them, it repels them.
The pads work in conjunction with the butane cartridge that is inserted in the top of the lantern. You just remove the top and press it in the slot provided, see below.
The lantern does not come with batteries and does require 4 D batteries to operate.
The Thermacell Camp Lantern is rugged and solid. It has a heavy weighted rubber base that helps to keep it in place wherever you place it. It has a long arm that you can use to hang it on a hook, tree limb, or off of your camper or tent. On the bottom, the Thermacell Camp Lantern has a ring that you can use to hang it.
We have been using Thermacell products for at least 5 years and found that their products are a good bug repellent solution when we are outside. No, they won’t kill mosquitoes and flying bugs but they will repel them in the close proximity of the area you are in. The camp lantern is a good dual-purpose solution and we will be enjoying ours on our patio this season.
