I just purchased a new engagement ring and was wondering how to go about getting it insured.
Congratulations on your engagement. NAGI Jewelers recommends insuring just about any article of jewelry that is frequently worn and costs above $1,000. Insuring your jewelry is as simple as calling the company that covers your home owners policy or renters policy.
Be sure to ask your agent if your policy covers both damages and total loss, and make sure your coverage includes replacement of the actual item lost and not a similar item up to the discretion of the insurance company. Just about any insurance company will require you to have a formal appraisal on the jewelry being covered. That is why we offer complimentary appraisals on most items priced over $1,000 in our store.
I would also recommend having your appraised jewelry re-evaluated every 2-3 years and updated every five years by a Certified Gemologist Appraiser to make sure you are covered for the full current replacement value.
