Shoreline Roller Derby is recruiting ladies 18+ who are ready to learn how to play one of the fastest growing sports on wheels. Roller derby is not about how you look, what size you are or your age; it’s about having fun with your friends on 8 wheels. February is your next chance to discover a sport that will boost your confidence, increase your strength and introduce you to new friends along the way.
New Recruit Nights are February 8th 6:30-8PM and February 10th 7:30-9PM at Galaxy Roller Rink in Groton. Stop by, watch a practice and get questions answered about the sport and the league. If you want to start skating that night, there will be protective gear you can borrow but you must bring your own mouth guard and ID with proof of health insurance. All skating levels are welcome, but you must use quad skates (unless you are interested in reffing, which you can do on rollerblades). Galaxy will have skates available to rent.
Shoreline Roller Derby has been around for almost 4 years and is going strong. Not only is the nonprofit dedicated to skating, bouting and introducing new skaters to the World of roller derby, but they also volunteer to help out other nonprofits like Meals on Wheels, The United Way and New London Community Meal Center. They are proud to call this corner of southeastern Connecticut home and can’t wait to introduce new people to the organization and the sport.
If joining in March works better for you, there are also New Recruit Nights on March 8th from 6:30-8PM and March 10th from 7:30-9PM. If you have any further questions about joining as a skater, referee or volunteer; email firstname.lastname@example.org. Check out www.shorelinerollerderby.com or Shoreline’s Facebook page for more information and to see what the league is up to.
