Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill opened their first restaurant in Connecticut at the Promenade Shoppes on Evergreen Walk on March 20th of this year. They are located in Suite 528, next to Charming Charlie. The Colorado-based chain serves a variety of fresh and fast Mediterranean fare in casual surroundings. Their setup is similar to Moe’s Southwest Grill (which happens to be right across the street). One of the founders of Garbanzo was the founder of Panera Bread.
The Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill approach is “to focus on fresh, healthy, quality foods using original, unique recipes,” with scratch-made pitas baked on site; salads and sauces made daily from fresh whole vegetables and no trans fats. Several of their ingredients are bought locally with some being imported directly from places in the Mediterranean region.
Once you are at the restaurant, you have a variety of ways to create your meal. You can “Build your own Entree” choosing either a Pita Pocket, Mediterranean Wrap, or a Plate. You then choose your protein: chicken shwarma, chicken falarma, steak shwarma, steak falarma, falafel, portobello mushroom, or hummus. Or, you can choose a Mediterranean “Classic Creation” of either a chicken or steak kabob platter or Greek salad. The kabob platter comes with two skewers of meat, red peppers, green peppers, and onions on a bed of seasoned rice accompanied by homemade hummus and signature vegetable salad. Meat can be added to the salad. They also serve soup. They offer a wide array of “extras” that you can pile on, such as hot peppers, red cabbage, feta cheese, vegetable salad (diced cucumbers and tomatoes with herbs) and several more.

Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill is a place where you can get a quick, fresh and healthy meal for a reasonable price. We enjoyed our visit and plan to go back.
Ask for a Free Falafel sample or homemade potato chips to try. Falafel is a deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both.
