April is National Poetry Month! R.J. Julia is celebrating poetry by holding its 5th Annual Poetry Slam on Friday, May 9 at 4:30 pm for Grades 1 through 6. All entrants will be considered in one of three groups: Grades 1 & 2, Grades 3 & 4, and Grades 5 & 6. One winner and two runners-up will be selected from each grade group. Winners will each receive a $20.00 R.J. Julia Gift Card, while runners-up will each receive a $5.00 R.J. Julia Gift Card. They will also be given the opportunity to read their poems at our Poetry Slam. However, all entrants are invited to attend the event.
Submission Guidelines & Procedures:
Entrants must send in three (3) copies of their poem, and each copy must include their name, address, phone number, grade level and age. Poems can either be mailed or dropped off at the store:

Only hard copies will be accepted; no emails.
You may submit works as a class, or encourage students to enter individually. For classroom submissions, please be sure to include individual student’s information for each poem.
There are no restrictions on topic or length, and poems do not have to rhyme.
Please note that submissions will not be returned.
Please do not staple submissions together.
The last date for submission is Wednesday, April 30th (no exceptions)
R.J. Julia staff will notify the winners and honorees during the week of May 5th
Submissions not meeting all of these guidelines will not be considered. No exceptions.
