We all love Origami Owl charm locket necklaces and now you can make your own at home by using supplies from Oriental Trading Co. These Origami Owl “copycat” locket necklaces will never replace the original but they are fun craft for kid’s to make for Mother’s Day and they also make great gifts for Valentine’s Day, teacher gifts, grandmother gifts, and birthdays. The lockets and charms don’t use high quality silver or gold but you aren’t paying that much to make them either. They would also be good as class projects and crafts for seniors.
The lockets are hinged and open and close so you can put things inside of them like charms and crystals. The locket is held closed with a tiny magnet. The goldtone or silvertone lockets have glass windows and come with a protective plastic sheet over top that you peel off before you use it.
Disclosure: We created this project from complimentary supplies received from Oriental Trading Co. No other type of compensation was received and our experience is our own and not that of Oriental Trading Co.

A Copycat Origamo Owl Locket necklace is super easy and fast to make. Just open the locket, insert the floating charms, close it and attach the chain. I used the 28″ chains and they wouldn’t fit through the hole in the locket so I used pliers and opened the jump ring on the chain, inserted the chain through the hole, and then closed the jump ring again with the pliers. The metal is easy to bend so you can also use a pair of tweezers if you don’t have pliers.
We also used Enamel Butterfly and Flower charms. They are really designed for bracelets because they have holes on either end for stringing but one fit nicely inside of the locket and we thought it looked cute so we used it. You can put just about anything small inside of these lockets. The enamel butterfly and flower charms measured 9 mm.
You can get creative and use a variety of floating charms. Make sure they are around 5mm in size or they will be too large to fit inside and won’t “float”.
You can also add pretty charms to charm loops with lobster clasp. They hook onto the locket and you can add charms as you go and remove them easily. Here are some other ideas you might want to try.
