The 2014-2015 First Music & Arts season opens on Sunday, November 2 at 4:00 pm with Organ PLUS!, a program of music for organ and other instruments. Steven Russell and Craig Scott Symons, with special guest oboist Dorothy Darlington, will perform music for solo organ, organ 4-hands, piano 4-hands, voice, English horn, and oboe in works by J. S. Bach, C. P. E. Bach, Mendelssohn, Held, Hebble, and many others.
Steven Russell is Director of Sacred Music at the Parish of St. Thomas More in Manalapan, NJ. He has also been director of a number of choral organizations in New Jersey, including the New Jersey Gay Men’s Chorus, Shrewsbury Chorale, and Rutgers University Queens Chorale.
Craig Scott Symons is Director of Music/Organist at First Congregational Church of Greenwich. Prior to his arrival in Greenwich, for over 15 years, Craig was Director of Music at First United Methodist Church in Royal Oak, MI, a suburb of Detroit. Craig also directs and accompanies the Blue Notes, a group of singing philanthropic women who share their time and talent and bring joy and laughter throughout Fairfield County at a number of assisted living, retirement, and nursing homes.
Oboist Dorothy Darlington has been seen on stage in virtually every musical ensemble in the area. Dorothy holds a Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate of Music from the Eastman School of Music, Michigan State University, and Catholic University of America, respectively. She is also a regular with the Greenwich Symphony and has been a substitute in the New York Philharmonic. She played with the U.S. Marine Band in the White House under President Reagan. She has appeared on television with John Williams and Jessie Norman and has also played on Broadway.
