How to Make Bird Seed Heart Treats and Wreaths

Mindy recently posted instructions for making a Birdseed Wreath to put out for your bird and squirrel friends during the winter months when they can’t find enough to eat and gave us permission to share it.

Mindy’s heart seed cakes are just the thing to make for your bird and squirrel friends.

Supplies Needed for Both:

Directions for Bird Seed Hearts:

  1. Boil 3/4 cups of water.
  2. Add 3 tablespoons corn syrup and whisk in 1 packet of unflavored gelatin until thoroughly mixed.
  3. Stir in 3/4 cup flour and remove from the heat.
  4. Gradually mix in 4 cups of birdseed and press into the heart-shaped mold.
  5. Poke a hole at the top of the heart so you can insert a piece of ribbon for hanging.
  6. If the weather is bitterly cold, place the pan outside to freeze or place in the freezer overnight.

Directions for Bird Seed Wreath

  1. Spray pan generously and sprinkle with cranberries (optional)
  2. Bring water and corn syrup to a boil
  3. Whisk in gelatin, take off heat
  4. Add flour and stir
  5. Mix birdseed and flour mixture
  6. Mold into greased Bundt pan
  7. Refrigerate overnight
  8. Remove wreath from Bundt pan
  9. Tie ribbon through center of wreath
  10. Hang outside for the birds
