Hartford Fashion Week (HFW) makes its debut September 28th through October 4th. Fashioned after nationally prominent events, Hartford will join other fashion relevant cities such as New York, Miami, Chicago and Palm Springs by presenting a week of interesting and enlightening fashion-related happenings.
The first Fashion Week was in New York in 1943, when the United States fashion industry could not get into France for Paris fashion shows, and decided to bring the best of American design together. It has since grown into a biannual celebration where designers release their seasonal lines. More recently, local cities have adapted this idea to highlight their local designers.
From September 28 through October 4, Hartford will see its first city wide fashion celebration culminating with a weekend of runway shows at Union Station. Kicking off with a launch party at Majorca, Fashion Week events include film screenings, panel discussions, and runway shows highlighting talented local designers. Check out the website for the complete schedule.
Call for Models, Artisans, and Photographers
A call to models will be held for designers. Registration for models is now open. If designers already have models they prefer those models must be registered by midnight on August 7th. Hair and makeup will be provided, courtesy of International Institute of Cosmetology, for 10 models per designer. Models can walk once a day, giving them a maximum opportunity for three shows. Models who are selected will be provided with a headshot and any other taken pictures for their portfolios.
Registration for artisans is now open. There is no application fee. All shoe design, jewelry design, and other accessory design companies are welcome. These registrations will be filtered to the accepted designers. If a designer feels an accessory line suits their apparel, that artisan company will have the opportunity to see their designs on the runway and their company name also printed in the event program for an enrollment fee of $50.
Photographers are needed both at the runway shows as well as at supporting events around the city for the duration of Hartford Fashion Week. If interested in participating as a photographer, please email us at HartfordFashionWeek@gmail.com.
