Tucked away in the corner of a small strip mall off of Post Road in Fairfield, CT is the recently opened Hana Tokyo, specifically located at 1275 Post Road. Hana Tokyo specializes in hibachi and sushi, but also offer other appetizers and entrees, all with an Asian flare. In addition, they offer a lounge area where one can enjoy a drink while eating sushi or appetizers. Once you are done with your drink and appetizer, move on down to one of the Teppanyaki tables for your meal and entertainment. It is advised to make a reservation ahead of time. Regular tables are also available if you are not in the mood for hibachi.
Two of the specialty cocktails featured on the Han Tokyo menu are the Sake Tini and Maitai.
If you are not eating hibachi-style from the Teppanyaki tables, try something from the Chef Special Roll portion of the menu like the Dynamite Roll. It is tasty consisting of spicy yellowtail, tuna, and rice topped with spicy crunchy crabmeat. Another delightful roll is their Magical Roll consisting of spicy crunchy salmon, cucumber, and rice topped with smoked eel, shrimp, avocado, Tobiko, and scallions. For the Sashimi lover, there are a wide range to choose from, including tuna, white tuna, eel, red snapper, and octopus. Be sure to try the Tempura appetizer that has perfectly tempura fried shrimp and vegetables.
Shortly after arriving at your Teppanyaki table, you will be presented will a bowl of clear broth mushroom soup which is very light and flavorful. The hibachi dinner also includes a shrimp appetizer.
When the grill has reached the proper temperature, the hibachi chef will arrive to cook your meal, and entertain you as well. Several hibachi dinners are available to choose; Traditional or Combination. Along with your meat or vegetarian choice comes grilled vegetables seasoned with their own seasonings and exotic sauces. Steamed white rice that accompanies the dinner can be turned into fried rice, if you desire (extra charge though).
You will be amazed as the chef performs a juggling act of agility, speed and creativity, all with his spatula and knives. You’ll delight as the chef slices, dices, chops and spins your dinner in the air and shoot sake into your mouth. Hibachi is perfect for a group of friends, families and creates a unique experience for parties and birthdays. On our visit the chef made an onion volcano and lit it on fire. It was quite the thrill.
If someone in your group is celebrating a special birthday, Hana Tokyo has just the thing, a birthday brownie that is available with ice cream and sprinkles. Be sure to try the green tea ice cream or the fried cheesecake if you are ordering dessert.
