For the Kids: Mystic Aquarium Is Fun Rain or Shine

We have been to Mystic Aquarium many times over the years but it is always fun to go back and see what new exhibits they have. The Mystic Aquarium provides close encounters with a wide range of marine animals.

Mystic Aquarium is located at 55 Coogan Blvd, Mystic, CT 06355

When we arrived there were clouds and eventually it rained. We just grabbed our umbrella and had a great day at the Aquarium. If you forget yours you can buy a poncho for $2.95.

The white Beluga whales were out meeting and greeting with Aquarium guest when we arrived and didn’t mind the rain at all. We went inside the main building and saw all kinds of sea creatures – Clown Fish, Jellyfish, Sharks, Turtles, Barracuda, and even Sea Horse. There is a lot to see and learn.

Stick around for the Sea Lion Show held at the Foxwoods Marine Theater. The sea lion show is included as part of your ticket price and last a half hour. During the show you watch these amazing sea lions interact with their trainers, show off the skills, and ham it up a bit.

Make sure to check the feeding schedule on the Aquarium website. It is the best time to be at the Aquarium because you will see the animals up close while the trainers feed them.

One of my favorite exhibits is the African Penguins. You can see them outside or go inside and watch them up-close through the underwater tank windows.

There are other exhibits to visit that are also included in your ticket price – Scales and Tails, Ray Touch Pool, Shark Encounters, and the Discovery Lab.

The state-of-the-art 4-D Theater is something else you will want to add to your trip to the Mystic Aquarium. The cost is $6 extra once you are inside.

When you are ready for lunch the self-serve cafeteria and plenty of outside eating areas are the perfect option. We were surprised to find lots of healthy food options like salads and fruit on the menu and the prices were very fair and not overpriced.
