Introduction to Ice Fishing with the DEEP (Free)

Ice Fishing is a great way to spend time outdoors with family and friends while getting some fresh air and exercise! The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education (CARE) program offers this free ice fishing program. This program’s introductory ice fishing will teach you everything you need to know to start ice fishing. Topics discussed include: how to dress for the cold, ice safety, how to tie a strong knot, what baits to use, what fish you will catch, how to drill a hole in the ice and use a tip-up and jig rod, and much more!

These programs are designed for adults and families (children ages 8 and up) and consist of two hours of instruction with demonstrations. *If ice conditions are safe, all students are then invited to join us on the lake for an ice fishing trip to try their new skills. The CARE program will provide ice fishing equipment to borrow and bait for the fishing trip. Valid fishing license is required for those 16 years and older to fish. Program provided by state certified fishing Instructor from DEEP CARE program, people are allowed to take their catch home. If you develop the love for fishing check out https://www.swelluk.com/pond/pond-filters-24/ for information on how to have a pond of your own.
