A Hempsted Halloween New London

October 20, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Get into the spirit of the season with A Hempsted Halloween on Saturday, October 20th from 4 to 7 pm! Experience the city’s oldest house at twilight while meeting ghosts of past New Londoners with ghoulish stories to tell. Hear their tales and talk with them if you dare! Then visit our stone house to enjoy some cider and make s’mores over an open fire. You’ll encounter plenty of history, and maybe a few uninvited ghosts…The event is FREE and open to the public; sponsored by the Chelsea Groton Foundation.

The Hempsted Houses are located at 11 Hempsted Street, New London, CT. It is open for tours May through October.

The 1678 Joshua Hempsted House is the oldest house in New London and is one of New England’s best-documented dwellings. Adjacent to the Joshua Hempsted House is a rare stone house built in 1759 by Nathaniel Hempsted. Both structures survived the 1781 burning of New London and stand today as testaments of 17th and 18th-century daily life.
