The musical duo Arborea is comprised of Shanti and Buck Curran on guitar, banjo and dulcimer playing their own unique take on ‘New Folk” music. Arborea’s album Red Planet received critical praise including ‘Top Vinyl Pick’ in the September 2011 issue of Mojo Magazine, ‘Editors Top Pick’ in the December 2011 issue of Guitar Player Magazine, and Rolling Stone’s ‘Best Under-the-Radar Albums of 2011’ as listed by Rolling Stone senior writer David Fricke. Arborea has also curated two CD compilations: We Are All One, In The Sun: A Tribute to Robbie Basho and Leaves of Life to benefit the UN World Food Program.
NPR’s Bob Boilen, Host of All Songs Considered, recently described their music, “The music stood out for its calm beauty, its rough edges, and the duo’s ability to speak eloquently of life’s precious moments, about the sea, and about wonder”. The Robbie Basho tribute made Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s list of the Best Acoustic Albums of 2010, Top Editors pick for the December issue of Guitar Player Magazine along with Mojo magazine giving it 4 Stars.
Their latest CD Fortress Of The Sun was included in Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s “Best Acoustic Recording of 2013”. “Arborea… always manage to top themselves with each new album. Fortress of the Sun is no exception. With this release, the psych-folk wife/husband duo perfect their ethereal, droning sound, paying tribute to the blues and traditional music, all within a forward-thinking, experimental lens.” (ESP-Disk)
